  4. Audience - who, in general, will be reading the text
  5. Purpose - what is the author's purpose
  6. Message - what is the intended message
  7. Theme - the subject and the author's opinion about the subject




Learning Goals

  1. Recognize how different features, forms, and genres of texts reflect different purposes, audiences, and messages
  2. Plan, develop, and create engaging and meaningful informational texts for a variety of purposes and audiences
      • paragraph compositions that include a theme (subject and author’s opinion)
      • TAG (title, author, genre)
      • multimedia texts
      • the range of audiences include peers, authorities, and technical audiences.
  3. Recognize an increasing range of text structures and how they contribute to meaning
  4. Students are expected to exchange ideas and viewpoints by: 

    • paraphrasing 
    • building on each other's ideas 
    • disagreeing respectfully 
    • extending their thinking (shift or change thinking to include broader contexts)
