Class of 2021

2021 Westsyde Secondary Commencement Ceremonies ~ Wednesday, May 26th to Friday, May 28th

**New Guidelines for 2021 Westsyde Secondary Commencement Ceremonies**

Good morning,

We are very excited about honouring our graduates during Westsyde Secondary School's Class of 2021 Commencement ceremonies, beginning in 8 short days!

The BC Ministry of K-12 Education has just advised schools that there are new regulations in place for Individual Commencement Ceremonies to occur.

Please be advised of the following changes we are making to our Commencement ceremonies so that we are in compliance with these new measures:

1) For schools running individual indoor ceremonies (graduate plus in-person spectators),

  • only the individual student, their guests, and staff running the ceremony are present.
    • Max. 4 guests (plus additional children under 12 that require supervision) allowed per student.  Guests should be members of the students' household(s) or someone who lives on their own but regularly interacts with the occupant(s) of the household.

We understand this is disappointing news.  In order for our commencement ceremonies to happen, we must strictly follow all health and safety guidelines as mandated by the BC Ministry of K-12 Education.

2) Staff, graduates, and guests must follow all other required safety measures as outlined in our previous communications (ie: staying home when sick; completing a Health Check before entry; maintaining physical distancing measures of two meters or six feet; sanitizing hands upon entry and exit; wearing non-medical masks, etc.) from entry to exit.

3) Gathering and crowding on school district property must be avoided at all times.  Graduates and their guests are to arrive no earlier than ten minutes before their appointment time and must leave the school property immediately following their ceremony appointments.

4) Students may temporarily remove their mask while crossing the stage and while being photographed, provided they maintain physical distance from people outside of their household(s).

We are striving to make this a very special occasion for our graduates.  It is critical we do everything possible to make sure that our individual, in-person Commencement Ceremonies can occur and that everyone stays healthy and well in this process.

Thank you very much for your support and understanding.
